LNT and Enjoying the Outdoors

My name is Camille Girardeau-Montaut. I am a high schooler with a passion for nature and exploring new places. Over the past four years, I have been a part of a local venturing organization in conjuncture with the Boy Scouts of America. I have learned about how to enjoy nature while preserving it.

During my time in Venture Crew, I have learned a great deal about keeping our environment clean and maintaining it so that future generations will have the ability to enjoy it just as much as we do. Though my friends and I always joke about it being called Ellen T., Leave No Trace (LNT) is an important thing to practice when you are spending time outdoors, especially on backpacking trips. The picture above is one that I took while on a backpacking trip in Canada. It was such a beautiful experience that I would love for everyone to have, but in order for that to happen, it needs to stay clean for future generations. On this trip, we made sure that we didn't disturb any of the natural life or rocks by sticking to the trails. We also packed all of our trash out, and picked up any trash that other people had left. This experience taught me just how important it is for us to take care of our environment. Whether its's on a backpacking trip in a different country, or a hike in your hometown, it is important for everyone to do their part in the Leave No Trace effort. It is as simple as picking up a piece of trash off the ground and it will immediately leave a positive impact your community and the nature around you.
